I go to minneapolis to do business sometimes but they are one in the same. the only problem is that if you are not used to the cold, you will have a hard time getting used to the weather

Yes, St. Paul is a nice city to work and live in. I lived in the city for ... well, lets just say many many years. St. Paul is a large city with a small town feel to it. For the most part, when the business day ends (approx. 6 pm) the city pretty much rolls up the carpet for the night. Which is not to say there aren't things to do, they just aren't in the downtown vicinity. I highly recommend St. Paul over Minneapolis. St. Paul has a good bus service or if you prefer to drive, cheaper pay lots than Mpls

Which is better to live in St. Paul, Minneapolis or suburbs?
I'm a young single professional that will be working near the capitol in St. Paul. I'm moving from a small town out of state and have never lived in a large city before. Living near work is important to me as I have dogs and would like to be able to run home during lunch. But people have been telling me I should live in Minneapolis because it's a lot more fun.

from a visitors point of view i liked minneapolois better. its a much cleaner place than st paul.

you could do both,live in Minneapolis as it is much more fun,and live either down town or uptown, either one and you will be in a fun spot,and the commute to st. paul is still pretty short, although downtown will be the shorter of the two, you wont be able to go home for lunch, but you won' be too bored living in st.paul either , good luck....I live in minneapolis

If you're from a small town, Minneapolis may be intimidating to you at first. Still, it is a fun place for young professionals like yourself, with several different neighborhoods to meet your needs. If you have dogs, it is harder to find a place in the city, especially with a decent yard. I have a dog and live in Mpls right now and there are a lot of parks/lakes to walk, even some dog parks. The suburbs are OK--they tend to get very quiet if you're ok with that. Same with St. Paul, pretty quiet. You might like living somewhere around the Grand Ave/Summit Ave area in St. Paul. There are some nice restaurants/bars on Grand and it's a pretty nice area.

It all depends on your priorities. Living in the suburbs you will be able to get a nicer place for your money with a larger yard but with traffic will not be able to run home during lunch. Minneapolis has a great nightlife, but expensive to live downtown and you wont have much luck finding a yard and even in Mpls you'll really be cutting your time short if you are trying to drive there and back to St. Paul during lunch. St. Paul has its OK areas, you'll be able to get to your dogs, and twin cities rush hour is horendous so living close to work is ideal but either city has its crime and rough areas whereas the suburbs are more affluient. It all depends on what you are looking for and how long you plan to stay there

I don't live in Minnesota, but this looks like a job for the Metro Transit trip planner. Metro express bus route 674 runs between Wayzata and downtown Minneapolis. From there you can take route 94 to St Paul (depending on where you want to go, other routes may be available

About Which Minneapolis/St. Paul suburb would be best if you work in Oakdale

Which Minneapolis/St. Paul suburb would be best if you work in Oakdale?
My husband has a new job in Oakdale and our family will be relocating there. I don't know much about the suburbs and trying to look at internet maps has me more confused. The things we are looking for are: good schools, short commute, decent housing costs (we will be renting at first~preferably a house, not an apt.), safe neighborhoods, easy access to family oriented activites. Does anybody have any ideas on which area would work the best for us? As much detailed info you can give would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

You should look at living in Oakdale itself or maybe Stillwater. Stillwater has a huge school though, but they have a variety of classes to choose from. Coon Rapids is also nice, but I think that the longer commute and traffic would get old after a while. Also, if your husband doesn't mind the commute after all, you could look into living just on the other side of the border in Wisconsin like in Hudson which has the small-town feel to it. The traffic doesn't really seem too bad until you get a little further into Minnesota anyway. Also, you could look into Bayport; I've been through it a couple of times on my way to other places, and I really like it. It's a very pretty town, and I would consider living there someday. Woodbury is a very fancy suburb, and it is close to Oakdale; Woodbury has very good shopping, but that may be the only good thing about it if you don't like snobby people. I've met a few people from Woodbury, and I think they seem very nice, but a lot of my friends actually can't stand people from Woodbury because the Woodburians (or whatever they are supposed to be called) are supposedly so snobby. According to one of my friends who is actually from Woodbury, all the neighbors try to out-do each other and kind of have a slightly malicious attitude towards their competition. I don't know about all people from Woodbury though, and like I wrote already, the five or so people I know from Woodbury seem decent in my opinion. Besides, good shopping, good shopping! All of the places I listed seem very safe in my opinion--which says a lot because I am originally from a much more rural area, but I go to college in the Twin Cities area. I'm not as certain about housing costs, but I know that Woodbury may not be the cheapest place. Living pretty much anywhere in the Twin Cities area gives you access to a variety of activities. I'm not as sure on the schools because I didn't go to school in the Twin Cities area, but my friends that attended schools in that area seem like well-adjusted individuals.
