How is it to live in downtown St. Paul?
I am moving to St. Paul soon and will be working in Woodbury. I am single and hence do not really want to live in a suburb. I was wondering how is it living in Downtown St. Paul. Please help. Thanks.

I used to live in Woodbury, it is so nice out there. Don't worry, you will be close enough to still do things in the cities. There are also still things to do out in Woodbury, it has plenty of stores, restaurants, etc. I also lived in Minneapolis. It's not quite like St. Paul, St. Paul is kind of the 'poorer' city. But Minneapolis is really nice, if I were you I'd consider living in Minneapolis; not St. Paul. Just ask anyone who lives there, they will pretty much tell you the same thing. The two cities do connect downtown, so there is really no difference there. Good luck on your move!

I would move out to St.Cloud, its an awesome town with lots of bratwurst. The commute wouldnt be so bad

I know he spearheaded the mission to the Gentiles. But are we talking in the thousands converted here, or just a handful of perhaps key seed individuals to go and continue the work?

Put it this way, he is singlehandidly responsible for Christianity. Without his determination and vigour and travelling and letter writing, the followers of Christ would be just a small sect of Judaism which existed in a small, insignificant corner of the Middle East. St Paul, and the Roman roads which enabled him to travel around the Mediterranean area, are to blame for the travesty practised in the name of that humble and good (though seriously mislead) young man called Jesus.

About What is the best way to go about asking for corporate donations for smaller charities

What is the best way to go about asking for corporate donations for smaller charities?
I work with St. Vincent de Paul and we are looking to raise $20,000 to help send children in our community to summer camp. Last year we didnt need donations, but the help that we received last year has pulled out and we need to raise the money. As a charity, at most we can afford to put in $1600 from our own funds. I would love to just raise the entire amount and not dip into our own funds so that our money can be used for other things. We have a letter drafted out with official letterhead but I am having a heck of a time getting out there in front of the people who need to see it.

It's been my experience that you just ask. Try to find someone who is willing to work with you a little rather than just tossing it in. e-mail the p.r. rep and tell them you're soliciting donations for a charity and see what they suggest you do. I admit I'm not an expert, but getting someone in the business on your side seems like a good place to start.

My company has a community service comittee that they basically force new employees to be on. so i have to actually seek out charities so we can have events. I'm sure some other companies have this type of thing too. You can call, explain yourself, and ask if there is a Community Service or Social Commitee that takes care of charity events. If they don't you might ask simply to speak to the person who's usually in charge of organizing events. they might not have a designated person, but in my experience most places have this "chearleader"- type employee that just likes to get everyone involved in something -- you know-- that one co-worker that is always smiling and tries to make you sign up for the christmas potluck.

Saul / St Paul was actually Josephus Flavius. I realize this is a bold theory but if you can open you mind to it then it seems to make a lot of sense. Obviously you need to believe that Jesus Christ was a myth and then consider that St Paul is a pseudonym. Enjoy. Saul and Josephus lived identical lives. Here is a starter for you... Saul / St Paul – A Jew of Tarsus, Raised in Jerusalem, Roman Citizenship, Educated as a Pharisee, Became a Rabbi Josephus Flavius – A Maccabean Jew, Raised in Jerusalem, Became Roman Citizen, Educated as_ a Pharisee, Became a Rabbi Saul/Josephus disappeared from public view for a number of years from AD 56 onwards, Saul admits being in prison while Josephus skipped 7 years of his life-story. Both embark on a voyage to Rome in AD 62 - date match exactly. Both voyages end in disaster, both encounter a storm and are shipwreaked then end up in Rome The ‘publisher’ of both of their works was Epaphroditus, secretary to emperors Nero and Domitian. What are the chances of two individuals, two jewish priests, both Roman citizens, both shipwreaked, both writing many letters through the offices of the same ‘publisher’? I would say to you that it is far more likely they where the same person. Your wondering about how I explain the age of Saul/St Paul yes? Saul / St Paul's birth date is unknown. The date given for Josephus birth is AD 37 and is entirely possible for both. There is nothing within the life of Saul, as detailed in the new testament, that would require his missionary tours to start before AD 53, when he was 16 yrs. Even today, missionary tours are most often undertaken by the youth of a sect or community and Saul was no exception to this rule. Also, the epistles or letters of Saul, which form the bulk of the new testament, all date from AD 53 onwards. In addition – William Whiston, 1737 – Famous for translating Josephus’ works into English observed – “Josephus’ work and the letters of St Paul are written in the same style”. There is actually many more similarities, I can add them if you wish. There are also endless explanations of events but i felt this was enough information to create an interest in the theory.

It's not a scholarly theory, and it's not very likely. Also, most scholars don't believe that the friend of Paul by the name of Epaphroditus, the secretary of Nero by the same name, and the Epaphroditus whom Josephus dedicated his book to were the same people. It was a fairly common name at the time. I'll see if I can find a full refutation of it (which I was looking for, which is why I'm only just now submitting this answer), and post a link to it. Um. No. Paul was a pagan from Tarsus who moved to Jersualem, briefly converted to Saduceean Judaism and then converted out again and began railing against Judaism, especially circumcision. He had no Pharisee training. (Or, if he did, it was quite quite poor. His writing reveals a total lack of Pharisee training but does show Greek rhetorical training.) Paul never met Jesus and was rejected by Jesus' followers, the Nazarenes. Josephus, Jewish born historian who documented the fighting between the Romans and Jews

About Can anybody help me find info on my great father in-law, Hermann Hemesath, immigrated to US from Germany

Can anybody help me find info on my great father in-law, Hermann Hemesath, immigrated to US from Germany?
He either owned or worked in a brewery in St Paul, Minnessota. I live in Austria now and have no job and no credit card so I am finding it very difficult to research. I know from the few pictures I have found that he worked in St Paul in 1955. I have only been able to find his New York entrance records. It is very important to my mother in law. Her mother told her he abandoned her but apon the mothers death, she found a box full of letters from him saying how much he loved her and pleading for her to write him. My mother in law lived a horrable life and if I could shed just a little bit of light on her past, I hope it will bring her some closure. I believe he died in 1965 and was born in 1911. Ihope someone can help.

If this is the same man, then I'm afraid he did die in 1965. Herman Hemesath died in Santa Cruz, California on 28 March 1965. It lists his date of birth as 30 May 1911 in Germany. Ironically, I found 2 other men with the same name living in Iowa. One was born in 1908 and died in 2000, the other is still living. I have no idea if there was any relationship between them all. I applaud Genevieve.. and might add some. On www.rootsweb.com there are family files, and several for the Iowa group, and their lineage from Germany (?). They could be distantly related. But, perhaps the father remarried and has other children who would be 1/2 siblings to your mother in law. Getting more details about her father, including an obituary, may open that door. Since he died in Calif.. that is where the search needs to go. Please drop me a note via my profile. I will do some digging tonite, and if you write to me, I can let you know how that turns out. It may take me a few days.
